Each of the following student projects offers details of a problem and its solution.

  San Juan County Land Bank

The Orcas Island Lands Manager for the San Juan County Land Bank took a short course from JoeBay U to learn how to prepare a photo display to be presented in the alcove at the Orcas Island Public Library.

  A Mother in Motion

A woman entrepreneur began the process of creating a package of materials that would promote her personal and professional goals by starting with a blog.

  OLPC Orcas

OLPC (One Laptop Per Child), an organization founded to promote international educational equality and literacy, created the XO laptop, a little green education machine, for children who are part of the bottom billions on the planet. OLPC Orcas has acquired several of these educational tools which are now being used, with great joy and success, in the Orcas Island Elementary School.

  Orcas Island Farmers Market

A vibrant, growing non-profit, the Orcas Island Farmers Market created a web site to provide information about the organization for visitors, vendors and the community.

  Warm Heads Hands Hearts

Warm Heads, Hands and Hearts is a social entrepreneurship microbusiness created to help support a Nepalese family's goal to provide education for girls.

  Auction Software for Non-Profits

OPAL has been a resounding success on Orcas for decades (in 2009 OPAL celebrated its 20th year). Part of OPAL's success comes from its annual fundraiser. OPAL has used software created by JoeBay U to successfully manage the auction portion of the fundraiser for almost a decade. The software has been offered, with training, free to any non-profit on Orcas, and has been used by Children's House and Montessori for their fundraising galas.

  Wood's Cove, Internet Journey

A local retailer began an ongoing adventure into the world of establishing an internet store to supplement her on-island sales. First, it required that she get a computer.

  Orcas Island Fire Department

The Orcas Island Fire Department has taken several JoeBay U courses over the past twenty years to acquire and understand new digital tools (computers, software, cameras, printers) and to improve service to the community (road index).

  Doe Bay Water Users Association

Doe Bay Water perceived a need to provide information to its members, many of whom live off-island. The goal was to provide up to date information in a user-accessible format, saving mailing, phone calls, phone tag, etc. The obvious solution: a simple web page.

What to Get? What to Do?
