Save Money! Save Carbon!
Play the DSM Game!

Right now most everyone under the Opalco electrical umbrella has a standard meter which records electrical use (measured in kilowatt hours, or Kwhrs) all day, every day, and is read once per month. Members pay a kwhr rate that doesn't reflect the time of day that any electricity is used. For simplicity, say it is 8 cents per kwhr. A precious few Opalco members have a "time of use" meter which records the power they use both during the "peak" period each day (6 am to noon) and the "off peak" period (noon to 6 am). The peak use kwhr rate is about 12 cents, but the off peak rate is about 4 cents, or about half the rate of what most members pay. If you want to "shift load" from "peak" (6 hours a day) to "off peak" (18 hours a day), you can save money ($15-$20/month or more). Take the free JBU Course "Save Money and Carbon", call Opalco, and get started!
