iTunes U
Jul 21, 2009 --
To explore iTunes U, you'll need iTunes, free software from Apple. If you have a (fairly new) Mac, you already have iTunes sitting in your Applications folder. For either a Mac or PC, you can download the most recent version of iTunes. Once you launch the program (double click on the iTunes icon), click on iTunes Store (on the left-side navigation bar) and then click on the iTunes U link. In a heartbeat you'll be exposed to courses from Yale, Stanford, the Library of Congress and much much more, on literature, science, folk music, moon exploration—things you can, and can't, imagine. Some lectures are video, some are audio, some you can get in written form. Try some; they are free. Downloading is simply a click; iTunes does the rest. Once your choice has been downloaded to your computer, you can watch/hear/read it there, or, if you have an iPod (for the best experience, an iPod Touch or iPhone), iTunes will (at your command) transfer the material to your iPod, where you can listen to it in your car, on the plane, while mowing the lawn, in your favorite chair, or while hanging out the laundry (getting exercise, breathing fresh air, absorbing good information, and using zero kilowatthours, all at the same time: what could be better?)
