Learn a Few Keyboard Commands
Jul 14, 2009 --

Want to get started using a keyboard command?

Suppose you wish to copy a piece of text. First, select some text to be duplicated by dragging the mouse over the text. At this point, you could either use the mouse and go up to the "Edit" menu and select "copy" (or "cut"; "copy" makes a copy and leaves the original text where it is, while "cut" makes a copy and deletes the original text where it is) OR you could press a keyboard "copy" (or "cut") command. With the Mac, the "copy" command is performed as follows: hold down the cloverleaf key [⌘] (also called the "command" key) and while holding it, press the letter "c" (for copy!). This can easily be done with one hand. With a PC, the "copy" command is similar: hold down the "ctrl" ("control") key and, while holding it, press the letter "c".

For the PC, see these keyboard shortcuts:

Want to go crazy with this? Here is a link to a thorough set of keyboard commands for the Microsoft Office Suite of Programs for Mac. The same commands can be used with a PC by substituting the "CTRL" key (on the PC) for the -Cloverleaf- ⌘ ("Command") key on the Mac.
