Serving the Membership
Doe Bay Water's web presence was hand coded in html, as this method was fast, inexpensive, and at the time (1998) the only viable option. It's purpose was to provide access to basic information about the Doe Bay Water Users Association to members and prospective members, many of whom live off island. Given that basic information about the association does not change often, maintenance of the web site was expected to be minimal (perhaps one or two times per year). The site serves as a simple and value-added example of an online information offering that requires very few resources to establish and maintain. A downside to this implementation is the requirement that the author and/or site maintenance person know html, a language that few water system operators would know or care to know. Today, this site would be a good candidate to be designed with iweb or macwebsitebuilder.
